The Idaho Building History

280 N 8th Boise, Idaho 83702
The Idaho Building

The Idaho Building, located at the corner of 8th and Bannock Streets in downtown Boise, has six stories plus a full basement. It has a wood and steel structure with brick, terra cotta and granite exterior. Large double hung wood windows embellish the upper stores. Decorative terra cotta figures and metal cornice adorn the building's crown. The 70,000 square foot building was erected in 1912 by Mr. W.E.Pierce, a former Boise mayor. Most materials were fabricated, crafted and shipped by rail from Chicago. It was and still is a high quality structure, made of the best material then available.

For most of this century the Idaho Building was Boise's premiere office building. The building was vacant for about five years but remained in excellent condition. Renovation work has cleaned up and restored the buildings best features while providing tenants with the convenience and comforts of new heating, air conditioning, and electrical and plumbing systems. New exits, fire sprinklers and structural bracing, has brought the building to today's life safety and seismic requirements.
